SGP, known as SentryGlas, is another type of membrane (ionomers) designed to protect people and their property from any natural or human threat, providing durability and safety to the laminated glass panes in which it is used, and combining the advantages of "regular" membranes such as UV protection, transparency and noise reduction.

VASGLASS allows for laminated safety glazing panels with SGP to be fully certified according to the EN 12600, EN 356 and EN 1063 security architectural standards.

The SGP membrane is five times stronger and up to 100 times more rigid than the "regular" one, to withstand heavier loads and tougher impact. Therefore, the laminated glass pane is now a more active structural element for architectural applications with clearer design freedom. It provides superior performance in structural constructions.

Also, unlike other membranes, the rigid SGP security membrane, thanks to its ionomeric composition, is less susceptible to moisture and "yellowing" over time, even when the edges of the laminated safety glazing are fully exposed to the weather conditions.

Measurement of the durability and declination of the glass according to a special computer program and equipment available to VASGLASS, is shown in the following diagrams. For a given load, the laminated glass with SGP is equivalent to monolithic glass.

Protection

In case of breakage, the fragments of the laminated antivandal glass remain firmly connected to the interlayer, thus reducing the chances of injury.

Security

It can be used in laminated glass with applications for resistance against bullets, hurricanes and even bomb explosions.

Protection against solar radiation and transparency

It can be used with coated low-e glass to improve energy efficiency, and it provides increased transparency. The transparency of SGP allows architects and designers to combine it with low-iron glass.

Durability

The rigid SGP security membrane is extremely durable as regards its structural composition (equal and higher as compared to a monolithic glass pane) as well as with respect to blurring or "yellowing" of safety glazing, even after years of exposure to weather conditions.

Flexible design

It can be used in combination with all types of glass in many applications, because it also has the advantage of being lighter in weight (up to 40% reduced weight compared to "regular" laminated glass). Its use combined with lighter-type components, creates a system much lighter than those previously used. This leads to larger openings, reduced number of supports, lighter support frames, visually lighter structures, and ultimately lower cost.
